Dufferin Mall Redevelopment
Urban Design Proposal; M.Arch Studio with Adrian Phiffer. 2013.
Open City proposes to reconfigure the property currently occupied by Dufferin Mall into mixed use urban fabric. The existing mall is maintained but integrated into low-rise retail and residential fabric connecting to Dufferin Street and the adjacent residential fabric.
Building on a mass housing precedent study, a three storey mat housing typology is deployed at the scale of the neighbourhood’s semi-detached housing. A network of at-grade public and semi-public pathways and parks establish an accessible urban ground extending from Dufferin street to the south end of the shopping mall.
