WALKING WOMAN REVISITED

Architectural Glass, 2009

Finalist, Jim Meekison Lounge Glass Installation, OCAD

Walking Woman Revisited returns to a work by Michael Snow (b. 1929; OCAD, 1952) and extends the cut-out work through the lense of architectural glass and contemporary culture. The piece re-considers Snow’s original provocation as a last grasp at the figural before it recedes from its dominant position as the subject of Western art and culture.

The architectural glass assembly uses mouth-blown glass, silk screening, and a digital transfer method to fabricate and surface-treat the panels. Caught in movement and transformed by light, the silhouettes are pure colour, hovering between the inside and outside, foreground and background.
