BLOOR AND YONGE
M.Arch Thesis, U of T, 2015. Supervisor: George Baird
The thesis addresses the interwoven relationship between mass transit and architecture, private and public space, at a key Toronto intersection- Bloor and Yonge.
The design begins with the refurbishment of the subway station and 1954 network of TTC subway stations, reasserting them as public monuments and a coherent experiment in architecture and planning.
The capsular condition of the subway and lower commercial concourse is addressed by establishing continuity with the adjacent built fabric, integrating the station into a legible network of public and common space- sidewalks, escalators, subway platforms, plazas, gardens, and atriums.
